La Croix-Blanche Epagny: A Meat Lover’s Paradise [Review]

La Croix Blanche 2 If you are looking for a place to enjoy a hearty meal of meat grilled on granite, then you might want to check out La Croix-Blanche Epagny. This family-run restaurant has been serving delicious steaks, entrecôtes, and other meat dishes since 1977. Located at the bottom of the Gruyère village, it offers a cozy and rustic atmosphere, as well as a stunning view of the mountains.

How was the food?

The food was excellent. The meat was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection on the hot stone. You can choose from different cuts of beef, horse, or chicken, and enjoy them with a variety of sauces and sides. The portions were generous and satisfying. The restaurant also offers fondue, salads, and desserts, but the meat is definitely the star of the show.

How was the ambiance?

The ambiance was warm and welcoming. The restaurant has a traditional Swiss chalet style, with wooden furniture, red curtains, and a fireplace. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, especially with our poor French. The restaurant was busy, but not too crowded, and the noise level was moderate. We felt comfortable and relaxed throughout our meal.

What would you recommend ordering from their menu?

We would recommend ordering the meat on granite option, which allows you to cook your own meat on a hot stone at your table. You can choose from different types of meat, such as beef, horse, or chicken, and get a salad, fries, and sauces as accompaniments. It is a fun and interactive way to enjoy your meal, and you can control how well-done you want your meat. The meat was of high quality and very tasty.

Do they accept walk-ins, or do I need a reservation?

They accept both walk-ins and reservations. However, we would advise making a reservation in advance, especially on weekends or holidays, as the restaurant is quite popular and can get busy. You can make a reservation by phone or online.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to go is anytime. The restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 7 a.m. to midnight, and serves hot meals all day. You can go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late-night snack. The restaurant also offers a weekly menu with different dishes every day, as well as a special offer on Tuesdays, where you can get unlimited meat on granite for CHF 25 per person.

Do they accept bookings for special events?

Yes, they do. The restaurant has three rooms that can accommodate up to 60, 50, or 80 people respectively. You can book them for special events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, or corporate meetings. The restaurant can also provide catering services, such as buffets, cocktails, or menus, according to your preferences and budget.

Is it worth visiting?

Yes, it is. We had a wonderful experience at La Croix-Blanche Epagny, and we would definitely go back. The restaurant offers a unique and enjoyable way to savor meat dishes, as well as a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. If you are a meat lover, or just looking for a good meal in a beautiful location, you should give this restaurant a try. You won’t regret it.
