Have you ever wondered what it feels like to climb a mountain in just 10 minutes? If so, then you should definitely try the Harderbahn, a funicular railway that takes you from the town of Interlaken to the summit of the Harder Kulm, the local mountain. The ride is steep and scenic, with views of the lakes, valleys, and peaks of the Bernese Oberland.
What was the cost?
The cost was affordable for the adventure. The ticket was 12 euros per person, which included access to the funicular and the viewing platform. The ticket also gave us a discount on the ferry ride to Bellagio, another lovely town on the lake.
What are 3 reasons to visit?
Here are the top 3 reasons to visit the Harderbahn:
- The ride. The ride was exciting and exhilarating, as the funicular ascended 755 meters in 10 minutes, at an average incline of 64%. The carriages were modern and comfortable, with large windows that offered panoramic views of the landscape. We felt like we were flying over the lake and the town.
- The view. The view was spectacular from the top. The viewing platform, called the Two Lakes Bridge, was a glass structure that extended over the edge of the cliff, giving us a 360-degree perspective of the surroundings. We could see the Lake Thun and the Lake Brienz, the Interlaken and the Unterseen, and the Eiger, the Mönch, and the Jungfrau. The view was especially magical at sunset, when the sky and the water turned into a rainbow of colors.
- The restaurant. The restaurant was cozy and charming, with a pagoda-like design and a terrace. The menu offered a variety of dishes, from salads and soups, to pasta and meat. The food was delicious and fresh, and the service was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a romantic dinner with a breathtaking backdrop.
Is it worth visiting?
Yes, it is. We had a memorable experience at the Harderbahn, and we would definitely go back. The funicular offered a unique and enjoyable way to explore the mountain, as well as a whimsical and creative atmosphere. The funicular was suitable for all ages and interests, and there was always something new to discover.
When’s the best time of day to go?
The best time of day to go is late afternoon. The funicular is open from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from March to November, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from December to February. The late afternoon is the least crowded and the most scenic time to visit, as you can avoid the tourist groups and enjoy the golden hour.
